What does Freemote do?
Freemote is a new bootcamp that helps people learn the skills necessary to launch a web development career, especially as a freelance e-commerce developer. The program is completely remote and self-paced, boasting an 85% placement rate. The flagship course includes 250+ lessons, 30+ hours of recorded videos, checklists, templates, and cheatsheets. Students also get access to a Facebook community for support, plus a masterclass on freelancing. While the program is self-guided, students get video code reviews with video feedback on all projects. The course is self-paced, so students decide when to start and finish. However, most students can finish in about 7 weeks working 20+ hours per week. Grads retain lifetime access to the material.
The curriculum teaches students the web development skills they need to succeed as e-commerce developers. The first week of the course covers HTML, CSS, and other front-end web development fundamentals. Next, students learn about the Shopify platform for e-commerce and how to develop for Shopify as a freelancer. Week 5 and 6 cover JavaScript as students master back-end development. The final week of the course covers advanced Shopify development skills students can use to launch their freelancing careers. While the course features a masterclass on freelancing skills and a supportive community, no formal job support is included.
Who are Freemote for?
People with no experience in web development but who are looking to move into this career path could benefit from Freemote. The self-paced program is especially helpful for busy professionals seeking a flexible program that they can review whenever they like. People who want to become e-commerce developers, especially those interested in freelancing, may also be a good fit.
What do Freemote cost? How much work is involved?
The flagship bootcamp costs $1,649. Students can also choose to make 4 monthly payments of $497. Unlike many other tech bootcamps, Freemote does not have any formal admissions process. The program is absolutely open to anyone of any skill level.
Ratings and reviews
Although Freemote is still a relatively new bootcamp, so far the reception has been positive. The program holds a perfect 5 star rating on Course Report, where grads praised the practical curriculum and flexible pace. One student described the program as a “freelancing course and nothing less, without the fluff.” The student felt the course was a good fit for beginners, raving “it is almost uncanny how well the instructors can intuit what will be perceived as challenging to inexperienced programmers.” Although another student warned that the program could be “challenging”, they were impressed by the affordable price, helpful community, and well-designed curriculum. One grad agreed that “the curriculum is streamlined yet thorough.” He also appreciated the “knowledgeable and articulate” instructors who he found to be supportive as his cohort completed quizzes and projects. The low tuition was also a big hit with most grads.
The program holds a perfect 5 star rating on Swithup based on just 1 review. The grad described his instructors as “top-of-the-line” with experience working for top companies like Uber. He was also impressed with the cohort’s outcomes, commenting “the community is super inspiring as you see other people landing freelance jobs.” Recently, grads have posted positive reviews on Reddit, where the new program has stirred up a buzz. One student commented, “what I like about this bootcamp is how practical it is.” The student warned “This bootcamp does NOT teach you to be a full stack developer,” but instead focuses on “a more niche type of development”, giving grads the tools they need to launch a career and learn as they go.
In addition to positive testimonials on Youtube, Freemote has been praised on blogs like the High Income Source and The Affiliate Doctor. Overall, most grads seem satisfied with the practical curriculum that prepares students to become freelancers. However, the course could be challenging at times, and does not cover full stack development or the job search in its entirety.

How does Freemote compare to Pathrise?
Freemote is a new bootcamp for people interested in learning the web development skills needed to launch a freelancing career. While an interest in web development is suggested, most Freemote students join the program with no web dev experience. Pathrise job-seekers should already have some background in their chosen field to prepare for the technical curriculum.
While Freemote teaches students key skills they need to succeed as freelancers, no formal job support is included. As a full service organization, Pathrise assists with all phases of the job search including portfolio and resume optimization, cold emailing and reverse recruiting, technical and behavioral interviewing, and salary negotiation. All Pathrise sessions are recorded for fellows in our program to review afterward.
Our program is flexible, with both group sessions and 1-on-1 mentoring meetings tailored to our program fellow’s schedules and needs. Pathrise offers an income share agreement (ISA) so fellows pay nothing until they land a tech job.
Pathrise is a career accelerator that optimizes the job search through 1-on-1 mentoring. If you want to work with our mentors to ace your interviews and land a great tech job faster, join Pathrise.
